To turn an hourly wage into a yearly salary, multiply your rate by the hours you work each week and the number of weeks in a year: annual = hourly ร hours per week ร weeks per year. A full-time schedule of 40 hours across 52 weeks equals 2,080 hours, so a wage of $25 per hour becomes $52,000 per year. This calculator also splits that amount into weekly, bi-weekly and monthly pay so you can compare job offers, build a budget or check a paycheck.
Converting salary to an hourly rate
Going the other way, divide the annual salary by the hours you actually work in a year. A $78,000 salary at 40 hours per week for 52 weeks is $37.50 per hour. If you take unpaid weeks off, enter them so they are deducted from the working weeks; this raises the effective hourly rate for the same salary and lowers the annual total for an hourly wage. Part-time schedules work the same way by changing the hours per week.
Things to keep in mind
The figures are gross pay, so taxes, retirement contributions and insurance will reduce take-home pay. Overtime, shift differentials, bonuses and paid holidays are not included, and employers sometimes count a year as 2,080 or 2,087 hours, which may produce small differences. Monthly pay is simply the annual amount divided by 12. When comparing offers, also consider benefits and commute time, since two jobs with the same hourly rate can differ greatly in value. Everything is calculated in your browser, and your pay details are never uploaded.
Quick reference: at 40 hours per week, an hourly wage of $15 is about $31,200 per year, $20 is $41,600, $30 is $62,400 and $50 is $104,000. Multiply by two for a rough estimate of what a salary in thousands converts to in hourly dollars: $60,000 per year is close to $29 per hour.
